Base Urban is a newly available bike brand from Flying Machine Bicycle Design Studio, centered around belt drives and their unique frame design. The frames are made from double butted chromoly, with a split top tube and curved downtube design, track ends and a split to accommodate the belt drive. The silent Gates Carbon Drive is spec’d on all Base Urban bikes, and meshes with either a fixed or 8-speed internal Alfine hub depending on model. The RD2.0 shown here features dual discs, the aforementioned internal hub and an upright riding position much like what some city riders prefer already. Expect it to sell for roughly $1600—you pay a premium for belt drives and disc brakes.
